Could the digital era be taking over a craft that has been around since printed material and photographers were available to the consumer? The craft of scrapbooking has expanded into the digital era. The last few years digital scrapbooking has become increasingly popular. Big companies like Creating Keepsakes and Memory Maker Magazine have taken notice and incorporated it into their business, by offering software, digital downloads, tips and ideas. There are many pros and cons of this digital craft, however on a recent survey given, I have discovered that the pros out weight the cons. One of the major pros are the items used on a digital scrapbooks can be used over and over again and do not take up real life space. No need for a scrapbook area to hold all your supplies and tools, or expensive storage cabinets, instead all you need is a computer, software, and digital camera, or scanner. For all those crafters out there that call themselves “scrappers” may not be ready to jump into the all digital art of scrapping there is a happy medium which goes by the term “hybrid”. Hybrid is a mix of digital and paper scrapbooking. Hybrid scrapbooking can be done by either printing your digital page and adding real life elements, or scanning real life elements and adding them to your digital page.Digital crafts has even been tailored to our children with products like the Digital Arts and Crafts Studio by Fisher Price. Will our children grow up to this form of preserving our family history and make the traditional paper scrapbooking obsolete? Only time will tell. Can you spot the real life scrapbook page? I will reveal the answer in tomorrows blog!
